The story will see Ocasio-Cortez taking on the establishment.

Blaylock spoke to Newsarama about the book:

“It’s no secret that AOC has become the unofficial leader of the new school, and has sparked life back into Washington and that’s reflected in the enthusiasm on display by the men and women contributing to this project. While we all don’t agree on everything, we share a common excitement for the breath of fresh air the new Congress brings. I hope this is as much a cathartic release for readers as it has been for us creators.”

He added:

“This time around, we wanted to create something that celebrates the fresh new energy and diversity of the stagnated legislative body, and help some good causes at the same time.”

Partial proceeds for the book will go to the United Service Organization and Raices Texas. Raices Texas describes itself as a nonprofit “that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees.” They also tout they are the “largest immigration legal services provider in Texas.”

Devil’s Due Comics is no stranger to producing political comics they previously published [easyazon_link identifier=”161855168X” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Barack the Barbarian[/easyazon_link] by Larry Hammer, Josh Blaylock, Chris Schons, and Hoyt Silva.

Cortez made headlines in the comic book world when she quoted Alan Moore’s Watchmen on Twitter signalling she was a comic book fan. Netflix recently paid $10 million to acquire the rights for Knock Down the House which is a documentary about the election campaigns of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Amy Vilela, Paula Jean Swearengin, and Cori Bush. The film won the Festival Favorite Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Netflix’s Vice President of Original Documentaries Lisa Nishimura was excited about the film saying, “It is a transcendent moment when skilled filmmakers are able to train their lens on a major transformation.” She would add, “With intimacy and immediacy, Rachel Lears and Robin Blotnik, bring viewers to the front lines of a movement, as four women find their voice, their power and their purpose, allowing all of us to witness the promise of true democracy in action.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: New Party, Who Dis? is expected to hit comic book shelves on May 15th.
