Darren Adams sold his All Star Comics #8 graded as CGC 9.4 for a record $936,223 on Ebay. Adams’ All Star Comics #8 was the highest graded copy ever rated by CGC. The next highest copies are CGC 9.0.
All Star Comics #8 saw the first appearance and origin of Wonder Woman. It also showed off Doctor Fate with a brand new helmet. Starman and Dr. Mid-nite also join the team. And if that wasn’t enough, there is a cameo appearance by Hawkgirl. The issue was written by William Moulton Marston and Gardner Fox. There were a bevy of artists attached to the book including Ben Flinton, Cliff Young, Jon L. Blummer, Sheldon Moldoff, Bernard Baily, Harry G. Peter, Stan Aschmeier, and Evert Hibbard who also did the cover.
The previous record for All Star Comics #8 was in 2016 at Comic Connect where a CGC 9.0 sold for $411,001.
Darren Adams also sold two other key Wonder Woman comics. His Sensation Comics #1 CGC 9.6 sold for $399,100.00.
Sensation Comics #1 arrived two weeks after All-Star Comics #8 and continued Wonder Woman’s origin story. It also introduced the invisible jet and brings Wonder Woman into “Man’s World” as nurse Diana Prince. While Wonder Woman might be the focus it also introduced Wildcat and Mr. Terrific.
A Sensation Comics #1 CGC 9.4 sold for $83,650 in 2010.
He also sold a Wonder Woman #1 CGC 9.0 for $226,877.77.
With the release of Wonder Woman this summer, her star is surely to rise and these comics could continue to increase in value. In fact, this new sales record puts Wonder Woman in striking distance of the highest price point for Detective Comics #27, the first appearance of Batman.
In February 2010, a Detective Comics #27 CGC 8.0 sold for $1,075,500. However, Wonder Woman still has quite a way to go to catch up with Superman. An Action Comics #1 CGC 9.0 sold for $3,207,852 in August 2014.
