Valiant unveiled a ton of artwork for their upcoming X-O Manowar series from writer Matt Kindt and artists Tomas Giorello, Doug Braithwaite, Clayton Crain, and more to IGN.
Not only did Valiant reveal images for their premier issue, but they gave us looks all the way through X-O Manowar #7 and do they look absolutely gorgeous!
Valiant’s new series X-O Manowar will see Aric of Dacia beginning a new a life. No longer is he constantly waging war, but instead lives a peaceful life tending his crops. Free from his armor.
However, war and death marches his way and he will be conscripted into an alien army finding himself in the middle of an unforgiving conflict. The fury the conflict wells up within him forces him to embrace the armor once more. And with his armor he lays waste to armies, topples empires, and incites interplanetary warfare as he rises through the ranks from soldier to general to emperor to Visigoth.
“2017 is X-O Manowar’s 25th anniversary and Matt had an intriguing idea… Instead of celebrating with a return to Aric’s status quo, let’s make the character a truly cosmic force to be reckoned with and thrust him into a whole new scenario – a lone human, bonded to an alien weapon, forced to fight on a hostile yet exotic extraterrestrial world,” Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani also told IGN. “Matt and the five-strong art team of Tomas Giorello, Doug Braithwaite, Clayton Crain, Ryan Bodenheim, and Mico Suayan are doing something we haven’t seen yet with this character – making him a literal “man of war” that’s about to take on not just an army, but an entire planet, over the course of 2017.”
Valiant has already laid out four different story arcs with the five different artists. The first story arc, “Soldier,” will feature art by Tomas Giorello. The next arc, “General,” will be done by Doug Braithwaite. Clayton Crain will provide art for the third arc, “Emperor.” Ryan Bodenheim will provide art for an Interlude issue #10. Finally, Mico Suayan will provide art for the fifth arc, “Visigoth.”
“We have five exceptional artists on board before issue #1 even launches, each of whom are brilliant talents who are absolute forces in the marketplace,” Valiant Editor-In-Chief Warren Simons told IGN. “Tomas Giorello, who is doing some of the most beautiful work of his career, kicks things off with our “Soldier” arc in issue #1, which is heavily influenced by movies like “Saving Private Ryan” and “Unforgiven”. The work Tomas is doing here is absolutely jaw dropping, and the response we’ve seen from his pages has been phenomenal.”
