Marvel Promises Female Thor Will Pick up Mjolnir One Last Time!

The “Death of Mighty Thor” story arc appears to be coming to a close. Writer Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman have wreaked havoc on Asgardia as the Mangog returned to decimate it and the gods who inhabit it. No one has been able to stop the mighty monster.

Mangog’s path of destruction will force Jane Foster, Mighty Thor, to make a decision that could end her life. Will she fight Mangog and pick up Mjolnir once more or will she watch the world fall before Mangog.

Marvel promises Jane Foster will pick up Mjolnir one last time in Mighty Thor #705. And when she does we will “witness the death of a hero.”

While it’s more than likely Jane Foster will die. Marvel seems to hint it’s possible another hero might die. If you read closely they don’t specifically mention Jane Foster will die but “a hero.” But what I find even more interesting is the new inscription on the side of Mjolnir. It reads, ” Whosoever holds this hammer, if she be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”

There’s a significant difference between the original inscription which debuted in Journey Into Mystery #83.

As you can see the original inscription reads, “Whosever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”

Given the change in the inscription it’s quite possible a different female character will take up Mjolnir and become Female Thor.

Take a look at some of Russell Dauterman’s interior artwork.

The art definitely confirms Jane Foster will pick up Mjolnir again and she looks like she is giving Mangog quite the beating. But I have a feeling Mangog won’t go down so easily.

Mighty Thor #705 by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman goes on sale on March 21, 2018.
