Star Trek to Celebrate 50th Anniversary with Convention in New York

ReedPOP, the organizers behind the New York Comic-Con will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek with Star Trek: Mission New York, a three-day event focused on the celebration of the beloved TV and movie franchise.

Lance Festerman, the global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP announced the convention “will be a completely unique fan event unlike anything seen before, giving [fans] the chance to go beyond panels and autograph signings, and immerse themselves in the Star Trek universe.

CBS Consumer Products Executive Vice President and General Manager Liz Kalodner added the event “will celebrate everything going on in the Star Trek universe, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it back to the birthplace of the original Star Trek convention and do so with a partner like ReedPOP.”

The very first Star Trek convention took place at the then Statler Hotel, now Hotel Pennsylvania, between January 21-32 in 1972. The show’s creator Gene Rodenberry and science fiction author Isaac Asimov were notables who attended the first convention.

The convention will take place between September 2-4 at the Javits Center just four days before the official 50th anniversary of September 8th. Also coming out this year is the latest installment in the movie franchise, Star Trek Beyond, which hits theaters July 22nd.
