X-Men Spotlight: Storm

Who is Storm?

Storm, Ororo Munroe, was born in New York, to an American father and a Kenyan mother. After their deaths, Storm spent her formative years as an orphan on the streets of Cairo. Picking pockets to survive, she’d eventually fall under the manipulations of the villain, Shadow King. During her earlier years, she stole from a young Professor Xavier who’d ironically freed her from the fiend’s control upon defeating him. Upon reaching puberty, her powers to manipulate the weather emerged and, through adulthood, Storm would come to be worshiped as a deity. Storm, being young and ignorant of the existence of mutants, bought into the idea of being a god. The fact she can hurl lightning bolts didn’t help disprove this idea.

Later, Professor Xavier recruited her to his new X-Men team (which included Banshee, Sunfire, Thunderbird, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine) which he employed to save his original team from Krakoa, the living island. Since 1975, Storm has become a staple in every era of the X-Men as one of their most competent leaders, second only to the likes of Cyclops. Unlike many of her teammates, Storm has managed to avoid dying (assuming you don’t count the time everyone died leading into the Outback era) for more than a panel or two. She would eventually go on to also be an Avenger and even marry the king of Wakanda, T’Challa, the Black Panther. The two would later divorce leaving Storm to return to the X-Men full-time.
