Thanks to a segment on the Joe Rogan podcast, we might have some new details related to the Joker Origin movie! The Martin Scorsese produced film has now been characterized as “super-dark.”
The Joker will also be shown in a new light. According to MMA fighter and actor Brendan Schaub, fans will get to see the Joker’s troubled childhood and how it played a role in his development as one of Batman’s greatest nemesis.
Brendan Schaub elaborated:
My boy Todd Feldman put this together with Todd Phillips… It’s dark. It’s, like, a dark Joker. As a kid, he had a permanent smile and everyone made fun of him. It’s, like, on the streets of Brooklyn. It’s super-dark and real.

Schaub’s source on this new information, Todd Feldman, is an agent of Phillips who is currently penning the script for the upcoming Joker origin movie.
Along with Phillips, the origin movie will see 8Mile’s Scott Silver as director and Martin Scorsese as a producer. Silver will also produce.
Last week it was reported that the movie would be a hard-boiled crime drama. One that is set in 1980s Gotham city. Jared Leto isn’t expected by many to star as the Joker, though the actor will reprise the role in the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel and the planned Gotham City Sirens movie.
It’s likely that since this is an origin movie we will see at least highlights of the Joker’s childhood. Whoever they cast to play the Joker will be much younger than what we’ve become accustomed to over the years. In the many iterations of the Joker’s character he really hasn’t been seen as a youth. To tap into unknown territory like this might give the film some room to explore what makes the Joker who he is.
How do you feel about this news? Do you want to see a “super dark” Joker movie? What do you think about seeing him as a bullied child? Will that ruin the mystery that gives the character depth? Sound off in the comments!
