After Fan Backlash to Sonic’s Character Design, Director Jeff Fowler Announces New Release Date for Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

The upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog live-action film has been delayed to February 14, 2020. The new release date was announced by director Jeff Fowler.

Fowler wrote on Twitter, “Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right.” He then posted a photo with the new release date. He cheekily pointed out the delay is being caused by changes to Sonic’s character design.

Fowler and Paramount Pictures faced an intense amount of fan backlash over the design of Sonic the Hedgehog after they released the first trailer for the film.

Following the backlash, Fowler surprisingly took the criticism in stride and indicated they planned to fix the character and make him “the BEST he can be…”

It definitely appears he meant that as he’s given his team a couple of more months to get the character design for Sonic just right. In fact, the release date image already provides a little bit of a hint about the new design.

Twitter user okkooliguess points out that Sonic now has gloves!

Most fans were extremely positive about the delayed release date.

What do you make of the new release date? Are you looking forward to the new Sonic character design?
