Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye has been noticeably missing from much of Marvel Studios’ promotion of Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, the character was completely snubbed from Entertainment Weekly’s Avengers: Infinity War covers.
Graphic artist BossLogic wasn’t having any of it. He created his own Entertainment Weekly covers featuring both Hawkeye and his potential alter-ego Ronin. If you look closely you can also see Ant-Man got in on the fun as he sets to take off on the tip of Hawkeye’s arrow.
Bosslogic wrote, “Can’t believe they left out our boy @renner4real #hawkeye from the @entertainmentweekly covers! (must be a Ronin thing ?) Wanted to quickly make one of my own, also revised it with the little guy #antman and typo #reup ? #avengers #infinitywar #bosslogic #entertainment #cover #comic #comics #magazine”
Take a look:
And here’s Ronin:
The posters caught Jeremy Renner’s eye as he shared the one as Hawkeye to his own Instagram. Renner added, “…@marvel #infinitywar #hawkeye #? #excited #blackpanther???? #fanart #fansrock??”
It’s unclear why Marvel Studios are leaving Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye out of the promotion of the film given he’s played a large role in The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. I mean he’s a freaking founding member of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, one possible explanation was revealed in a comic book tie-in to Avengers: Infinity War. After being rescued by Captain America following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Clint Barton decides to split ways with the former Avengers and head off into retirement with his wife and family. It’s quite possible Hawkeye might not play that big of a role in Avengers: Infinity War because he’s enjoying retirement.
However, we’ve seen him come out of retirement before and photos from the set of Avengers 4 indicate he will be back in action as Ronin.
