Alita: Battle Angel Fans Launch Campaign to Have #AlitaSequel Banner Flown Over Oscars

Alita: Battle Angel fans and specifically the Alita Army launched a campaign to raise funds to have a banner that reads “#AlitaSequel #AlitaArmy” flown over the the 92nd Oscars for three hours.

The Alita Army describes themselves as fans who’ve “been supporting Alita: Battle Angel and the crew involved passionately and positively.”

They also have a goal of getting people to watch Alita: Battle Angel and making new Alita fans.

Their goal for the banner is “to give the film studios faith that an Alita sequel will be successful.”

The GoFundMe started by Tony C. originally had a goal of $1,180, which is what their quote to fly a plane over the Academy Awards for 3 hours is.

In an update by Mark D., he reported they had blown past that goal within 3 hours of launching the GoFundMe. In fact, Mark D. reports they raised over $2,366 in the first 3 hours.

Not only did they quickly hit their original goal, but they also passed their stretch goal of $4,000 in less than 12 hours after the campaign went public.

As of writing, the GoFundMe has currently raised $4,650. The excess funds raised over $1,810 will be donated to Open Bionics.

Open Bionics was the company that 20th Century Fox, James Cameron, and the filmmakers of Alita: Battle Angel partnered with to give 13-year-old Tilly Lockey a pair of state-of-art set of bionic hands.

Mark D. notes the Alita Army team is “stunned with gratitude.” He also thanked those who have supported the campaign and promised there will be “additional updates on the progress of the banner and more about Open Bionics.”
