Audiences Discover President Trump’s Cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York Cut from Canadian Broadcast

With the return of the holidays and themed films to broadcast television, audiences who tuned into the broadcast of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York on the state-run Canadian Broadcast Company (CBC) channel noticed that a brief cameo of President Donald Trump had been cut from the airing of the film.

In the film, President Trump has a brief cameo wherein Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) wanders into a hotel and asks Trump for directions to the hotel lobby, to which Trump directs him to go “down the hall and to the left.”

You can see the differences in the two edits of the film below.

Upon noticing the edit, some viewers expressed their outrage on Twitter and speculated that the cut was politically motivated:

The edit even prompted the President’s son, Donald Trump Jr., to criticize the CBC and call them “absolutely pathetic” in a lengthy Instagram post.

He wrote:

“Absolutely pathetic. The liberal media like @cbc is where Trump Derangement Syndrome manifests itself fully. Imagine being so pathetic in your quest to attain some BS level of wokeness that you need to cut out a scene that is probably one of the the most famous cameos of the era? Imagine being so “triggered” that you can’t even leave a Christmas movie alone without editing. This is what we are up against in 2020, this is the filter by which most people receive their news. This is why it’s not a fair fight, but this is also why we will win. People see through this crap and are fed up of it. The media should go register as a lobbyist for the Leftists. Their bias is so flagrant they don’t even pretend to hide it anymore. They prove every day that they really are the enemy of the people.”

Following the initial outrage, the CBC explained to Comicbook.com that “as is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format.”

Days later, CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson would further clarify that the scene was cut as for time as it was not “integral to the plot” and that this edit had been present in all broadcasts of the film since 2014, the year prior to Trump’s announcement of his presidential campaign:

“As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited for time. The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. These edits were done in 2014, when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.”

President Trump himself commented on the edit on Twitter, implying that the cut was made because Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “doesn’t much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!” and jokingly declaring that “the movie will never be the same!”
