Avengers: Endgame Writer: MCU X-Men Will Be Something You Haven’t Seen Before

Avengers: Endgame writer Christopher Markus teased that the MCU version of the X-Men will be something that we haven’t seen before.

Markus spoke with the LA Times about the prospect of the X-Men joining the MCU, “It’ll be fascinating to see what Kevin Feige does with the properties he’s now getting from the Fox merger with X-Men and Fantastic Four.”

He then hints that Feige’s interpretation of the X-Men and Fantastic Four will look very different than what we’ve seen, “And to see what the MCU version of those things is, because I very much doubt it will be something that resembles what you’ve seen before. So that will be very exciting.”

However, it will more than likely be quite some time before we see Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige’s vision for the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Disney just announced their Marvel movie slate and along with that announcement they revealed The New Mutants film has been pushed back again. The movie starring Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton is now scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2020.

And Feige has been upfront the X-Men won’t be arriving any time soon. He told io9 last month that it would be a “very long time” before they arrive in the MCU.

“It’ll be a while. It’s all just beginning and the five-year plan that we’ve been working on, we were working on before any of that was set. So really it’s much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where [the X-Men will appear] right now and more just the comfort factor and how nice it is that they’re home. That they’re all back. But it will be a very long time.”

That means a Phase 4 appearance of the X-Men most likely isn’t in the cards. Though thanks to the latest Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, it definitely appears that Marvel Studios plans to embrace a Marvel multiverse. Mysterio comes right out and says he comes from a different Earth.

If done properly the Multiverse would easily allow Feige to introduce a number of new characters including the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as well as other teams like Excalibur or Alpha Flight. is looking towards expanding into a multi-verse.

What do you think of all of this? Is this a surprise? And do you believe the multiverse is the best vehicle to introduce the X-gene and the X-Men into the MCU?
