Avengers: Infinity War’s Chris Evans Hints He Could Return to Captain America After Avengers 4

In a sit down with Good Morning America, which you can see above, Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Evans showed off his new mustache and hinted that he might return to Captain America after Avengers 4.

Good Morning America host and former NFL star Michael Strahan asked Evans about the possibility of returning to Captain America, “You made some headlines recently. You said you were done playing Captain America.”

Evans took the opportunity to respond:

“Well, the contract is done. A lot of our contracts are through. Myself, Downey, Hemsworth, we all kind of started roughly at the same time. I think we all through Avengers 4 kind of wrap it up. At this point, I don’t know what’s next. By 2019, that’s it.”

Strahan was taken aback, “We hope that’s not it. We hope there’s more.”

That’s when Evans provided a brief glimmer of hope for returning to Captain America after Avengers 4, “Well, we’ll see. We’ll see.”

Evans had previously spoke about leaving the role of Captain America with USA Today where he said:

“I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t be hard for me. But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There’s a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It’s also joyful. I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it. However they want to proceed after Avengers 4, it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.”

Evans isn’t the only one who has addressed leaving the franchise. Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, also talked about the future of himself as Thor.

“Contractually, right now — yeah, this is it. I’m done. I won’t be playing the character again.”

However, Hemsworth has said he’s already starting to talk about the possibilities of a fourth Thor film, “We gave cheers … a few times. To Thor 3, but it also was like, ‘What could we do with four? We could do this and this.’ We were throwing ideas around.”

Do you think Evans is just playing coy about this contract ending in order to build up Avengers: Infinity War? Do you think he’s already in negotiations to return the character? Or do you think Captain America is going to bite the bullet in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4?
