Back to the Future creator Bob Gale thew some shade at Disney and Star Wars specifically Old Man Luke while promoting the upcoming stage show adaptation of Back to the Future.
In an interview with the BBC, Gale reiterates that he and co-creator Robert Zemeckis have no interest in continuing the story of Back to the Future or having it remade on film.
Gale says he and Zemeckis are asked all the time by studio bosses to do another film, “All the time. All the time. What can we do to convince you guys to do this?”
Gale explains the answer is nothing, “We said, ‘Nothing.’ You’ll make a lot of money.’ ‘We already made a lot of money.'”
He adds, “You know, you don’t sell your kids into prostitution. It was the wrong thing to do. We put ‘The End’ at the end of part three.”
Gale continues, “Plus Michael J Fox isn’t in the shape to do a movie, and nobody wants to see Marty McFly having Parkinson’s disease, and nobody wants to see another actor playing Marty McFly if it’s supposed to be a continuation.”

And then Gale took a shot at the Disney Star Wars movies and Old Man Luke Skywalker, “We’ve already seen the Star Wars movies and Luke Skywalker is an old man.” He adds, “That can be a little bit painful, right?”
As YouTuber YellowFlash notes in the video, it’s also a shot at George Lucas, “A little bit of shade throwing at Lucas. He’s got plenty of money. He could have stopped. He didn’t need to sell Star Wars. He already was super mega rich. So, he kind of sold his kids to a working lady life didn’t he? He did.”
YellowFlash adds, “No one wants to see Old Man Luke. Just like nobody wants to see a broken down Marty McFly. I think that’s a very great comment.”
Gale didn’t stop there though, he continued, “We learn from the fact that so many studios have gone back to the well on some of their franchise properties too many times, and the audiences are disappointed and say, ‘Oh my God, they ruined my childhood.'”

Gale concludes, “We don’t want to ruin anybody’s childhood, and doing a musical was the perfect way to give the public more Back to the Future without messing up what has gone before.”
What do you make of Gale’s comments? Do you agree with him? What do you make of the shade he threw at Star Wars and George Lucas?
