Today its official, The Batman has its director and it will be Matt Reeves. The talented director was in negotiations with Warner Bros. for the better part of a few weeks, but those negotiations broke down last week according to Variety. It seems though that they were able to get things back on track and have now finalized a deal which will see the director work his magic with the caped crusader.
Best known for movies such as Cloverfield, Let me In, and War for the Planet of the Apes, Reeves brings with himself a great deal of successful movies and experience. War for the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters this summer.
When Ben Affleck stepped down as the director in order to focus all of his efforts on his portrayal of Batman, the studio sought out Matt Reeves in order to bring the project to life and move it forward in production. Reeves stated, “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
This will be Reeve’s first time directing a movie focused on a comic book hero, but with his impressive record as director, it looks like The Batman is in good hands.
