‘Battlestar Galactica’ Movie in Development

Battlestar Galactica is attempting to make it back to the big screen with producer Michael De Luca teaming up with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films. The movie will be produced by Universal. The goal of the movie is to launch a movie franchise in the vein of Star Trek and Star Wars.

Battlestar Galactica was originally a short-lived television show airing on ABC between 1978 and 1979 with an accompanying cinematic debut starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Lorne Greene. The television show was revived in 2004 and ran until 2009 on Syfy. It followed the last surviving humans after their civilizations on distant planets were annihilated by the Cylons. These humans fled on starships led by the Galactica in an attempt to find Earth.

The Hollywood Reporter notes Universal has been developing the movie property since the television show began winding down. Initially Bryan Singer was tapped to direct the project, but he has not been involved since 2014. The movie does not currently have any writers attached to it at this time.
