After years of fans wanting a solo Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson’s, it seems their desires are finally coming true! In fact, in a 2016 Fandago poll, Black Widow was the top Avenger fans wanted to have her own solo movie. She beat out Vision, Flacon, Hawkeye, War Machine, and Scarlet Witch with 48% of the vote.
According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios has tapped Blacklist screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to write a solo Black Widow film.
Schaeffer’s most recent work includes Disney’s short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” which played before screenings of Coco. She also wrote the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake Nasty Women which will star Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.
Scarlett Johannson’s portrayal first captivated us in 2010’s Iron Man 2.
She would go on to star in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies including Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War. Black Widow also known as Natasha Romanoff is one of the top spies and assassins in the world. She once worked for the Soviet Union’s KGB, but later became a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. She joined the Avengers when Loki attacked Earth with his army of Chitauri.

Back in 2016, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige committed to a Black Widow film, “I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”
It appears he’s keeping that promise. However, there is no scheduled release date for the project. Marvel Studios has a full slate of films including this year’s Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and The Wasp. In 2019, they will introduce Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in Captain Marvel, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will return in a sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the untitled Avengers 4 will thunder into theaters. Marvel Studios is also working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and most likely a Doctor Strange sequel.
This is great! I can’t wait to see Black Widow out her own in a solo spy-oriented film!
