Box office predictions for Vin Diesel’s upcoming Bloodshot film have arrived.
Box Office Pro predicts the film will have a $14 million opening weekend and go on to earn $36 million at the domestic box office.
While they predict the film will have a $14 million opening weekend they do also provide a range between $12 million and $17 million.
They also provide a range for its domestic gross. That is between $30 million and $45 million.
Box Office Pro believes Vin Diesel’s “presence could aid appeal to general moviegoers not familiar with his comic book character or its parent brand, Valiant Comics.” However, they do note that “very few potential moviegoers are familiar with the character.”
They also believe that the film could benefit from “the lack of new releases aiming for adult male audiences in early-to-mid March.”
Production estimates for the film have not yet been released, so it’s unclear if those domestic numbers are positive. One would suspect they are on the lower end, and it’s possible the film was counting on a healthy Chinese film going audience.
However, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in Wuhan, Business Insider reports many Chinese theaters are shutting down. Their most recent report indicates that China has shut down 70,000 screens due to the outbreak.
While Business Insider doesn’t specifically mention Bloodshot, they do mention other March releases in the James Bond flick No Time to Die and Disney’s Mulan. They believe these films will have to compete with delayed February releases with limited showtimes. Bloodshot most likely would have to as well.
Bloodshot will arrive in theaters on March 13, 2020. The movie stars Vin Diesel as Ray Garrison aka Bloodshot. It also features Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, and Guy Pearce. The film is directed by David S. F. Wilson and based on a screenplay by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer.
Diesel talked about the character and the movie back in November.
He stated, “To say he is Crazy is an understatement. It is also clear why Bloodshot has been the Military’s favorite comic. The themes of the forgotten or exploited soldier run deep. At the core is love… however it’s use is altogether new and completely engaging…”
Here’s the official description:
“Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.”
