Charlie’s Angels Reboot Actress Kristen Stewart Describes Film as “Woke”

Charlie’s Angels actress Kristen Stewart recently discussed the upcoming film while promoting her historical biopic Lizzie.

Stewart spoke with Variety where she described the film will be “current and modern.”

Stewart prefaced her conversation stating:

“Watch. I’m gonna say all this, and then you’re gonna be like, ‘You guys didn’t do that at all.'”

Stewart would go on to state that the upcoming Charlie Angels movie “is still gonna be fun and ‘Charlie’s Angels’-y, but will also be current and modern.” Stewart then went on to describe the film as “woke.”

“God, it’s so funny. I know if I say this a certain way, I know that this will be written down. But it’s not such a bad thing. It’s kind of like a ‘woke’ version.”

Stewart would elaborate:

“There’s a kitsch nature to the last ones that was super fun. But nowadays, if you see a woman in combat, everything should be completely and utterly within their ability.”

She would go on to describe how the idea of three women forming Charlie’s Angels will be changed. Stewart explains the film will introduce a “whole network of angels.” “It’s not just three. Women across the entire globe are connected and helping each other,” Stewart states.

The addition of this network of Angels isn’t the only thing the film will be changing. Director Elizabeth Banks will be pulling double duty as one of the Angels’ advisor Bosley. Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou are also supposed to be playing Bosley characters.

Banks discussed what she finds attractive about the Charlie’s Angels property:

“Charlie’s Angels,’ for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s. This film honors the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels.”

She adds:

“I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world.”

The movie also stars Sam Claflin, Luis Gerardo Mendez, and Jonathan Tucker.

The “Woke” reboot of Charlie’s Angles will hit theaters on September 27th, 2019.
