A Little More Screen Time

Lewis Tan was great in Deadpool 2. While Shatterstar didn’t get a lot of screentime, they certainly made an impression. Lewis Tan, the actor who played Shatterstar, brought a brief and unique physicality to the role. Which made it all the more hilarious when his character “exited” the film. Thankfully, it looks the actor might be moving on to greener pastures. In a recent interviewLewis Tan reveals he’s met with DC about Nightwing and some other, unnamed projects.

Almost a month ago, the actor posted this picture to Twitter.

That’s an interesting development. Considering Tan just co-starred in a Marvelfilm albeit of the Fox variety. Well, That Hashtag Show had a hunch it might have something to do with a certain RobinThey caught up with the former-Shatterstar at the Saturn Awards. When he was asked if he was going to play Dick Grayson, Lewis Tan had this to say.

“I know Chris McKay wants a martial artist, right, so that’s out there. He’s following me on Twitter, you know…there’s a lot of good juju vibes out there for that. Nothing that I can say that is confirmed. This is a project that he’s still developing and I sat down with DC, with some of the executives at DC, and they’re big fans, I’m a big fan, obviously.

My father came to America, because of Batman and, you know, I definitely want to see that come full circle and give back. I’m not trading in my Marvel roots, because they started me, but DC started my dad, so it would be nice to go over there and play around and find the right thing. So we’re looking for the right thing and there were a lot of different talks and Nightwing was one of those that were mentioned, so we’ll see.

A Family Connection

Lewis Tan’s father Philip Tan is a stunt coordinator who was famously brought in to work on Tim Burton’s Batman. Well, one of the most important elements to the part is the physicality of the role. Director Chris McKay once held a Twitter Poll about what the fans want in an actor. They said they wanted an acrobat over a famous name. It’s important for the fans that the man who brings Dick Grayson to life be capable of his physical stunts.

Considering Tan is literally Hollywood stunt royalty, that must put him in the running. He goes on to say just how committed he would be to the part.

Yeah, I would put everything into it. I think that, when you’re a martial artist and you’re doing an action show, you can do so much more. You don’t have to cut around the actor, you don’t have to hide the actor and the performance alone is going to show so much more because it’s all you and you’re all there and you’re putting your blood, sweat and physicality into the role which is a big part of these type of films, you know, like Deadpool and Batman and Iron Fist, all those roles that I did, I can put so much more into it and I think it comes across, you know, and when fans see it they go, “Wow, that was incredible!”, even if it was short they go, “Wow, that was incredible!” and I think it’s because of that effort you put into it.

Wow is the right word. Tan knows exactly how to approach the role, but does that mean he’ll get it?

The Right Man for the Job

There is no doubt that Lewis Tan is a badass martial artist. That apparently was the most important factor for around half of the fans who voted. Tan has that covered and then some.

That being said, Nightwing is one of the most famous DC superheroes. The Boy Wonder all grown up. The Chris McKay-directed film could potentially have huge implications for the DC Universe, as well as Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Meaning the actor chosen for the role will likely have a multi-film deal with the studio.

It sounds like Lewis Tan is more than capable of the physically-demanding aspects of the part, and if you’ve seen him as Gaius Chau on FX’s Into the Badlands, you know he is capable.

Do you think he should be the actor to bring DC’s Nightwing to the big screen? Let us know!
