Despite Young Avengers Tease In ‘The Marvels’ Post-Credit Scene, Iman Vellani Calls For Petition “To Get Them Going”
Actress Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared that she hopes a petition is started to convince Marvel executives to do a second season of Ms. Marvel as well as a Young Avengers theatrical film despite The Marvels post-credit teasing the Young Avengers.
In the post-credit scene for the film, Vellani’s Kamala Khan confronts Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop and gives a knockoff version of Nick Fury’s speech to Tony Stark from the first Iron Man.
Khan tells Bishop, “Did you think you were the only kid superhero in the world?” Bishop responds, “I’m 23.” Khan continues, “Oh, I know. I’ve been reading up on you.”
Bishop then questions, “What do you want?” Khan responds, “I’m putting together a team and I want you on it. Please.”
Speaking with Slashfilm, Vellani revealed there were actually more actors and characters that filmed the scene than just her and Steinfeld.
She said, “There was another version where — does matter if I say it? There were more characters in it. I will not say which characters, but there were more characters.”
“But that was way before we did additional photography. We knew we were going to get that scene. It was the last thing we ever shot on this film during additional photography. And so yeah, it changed a couple times,” she continued. “And I think what it ended up being, I think just Kamala and Kate Bishop is honestly perfect. They are so compatible.”
Later in the interview, Vellani was asked what her hopes are for Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward and specifically if she wanted a second season of Ms. Marvel.
She replied, “Yeah, I would love for a second season. Not only Kamala has so much story left to tell, but [in] her community, I think we’ve established a lot of wonderful characters. Her best friends, Bruno, Nakia, Zoe, her school, her religious community, her family. I know people really responded to the Khan family very well from the movie. So I just want to explore more of that.”
“I want to see Kamala grow up a little bit,” she said. “I want to see her go to college, have a prom. Honestly, I’m living vicariously through this character. So every experience that I did not get because of the pandemic, I want her to get it, so I can have a prom and have a graduation. But yes, I want that slice of life to be more like Disney+ in a TV show format.”
Speaking specifically to a possible Young Avengers movie she stated, “Then I think it would be cool to have a Young Avengers type thing — team up, big spectacle, obviously in a movie, yeah, that would be ideal.”
“Hopefully people can start a petition or something to get them going,” she concluded.
What do you make of Vellani calling for a petition to get Ms. Marvel Season 2 and a Young Avengers film greenlit?
