Disney Shows Off Will Smith’s Genie in Aladdin Special Look Trailer

Disney released a special look trailer for their live action adaptation of Aladdin that finally shows off Will Smith as the big blue genie.

Take a look:

Disney previously released an image of Will Smith’s Genie, but he was allegedly in his human disguise and not in his big blue form. Smith promised his fans that he would appear in blue for most of the film. I don’t think his genie looks all that bad. I think the biggest issue with this special look is the voice acting for Jafar in the beginning of the trailer. He didn’t sound menacing or sinister at all.

Here’s the official description of Aladdin:

“A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.”

The film is directed by Guy Ritchie from a sceenplay written by John August and Ritchie. The film stars Will Smith as the Genie. Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussesn as Prince Anders, and Numan Acar as Hakim.

The score for the film will be composed by Alan Menken and will include a number of new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The film will also feature two new songs written by Menken and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Disney’s live action Aladdin will hit theaters on May 24, 2019.

What do you make of this special look? Do you like Will Smith’s genie? What about what appears to be Jafar’s voice in the beginning? Do you think he sounded menacing?
