**Warning Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War Below**
Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed some significant details about Thanos’ goals in an interview with the The Telegraph India earlier this month.
Anthony Russo elaborated on Thanos’ motivation:
“Thanos’s primary motivation on a plot level is to go after the Infinity Stones. That’s really the connective tissue that pulls our entire MCU together as the stones are spread out throughout the franchises.”
Joe Russo would continue:
“Once he hears about the stones, he realises that if he can get hold of all of the Infinity Stones he can control the entire universe.”
Obviously, Vision would be one of his primary targets given that the android controls the Mind Stone.
After defeating the Asgardians in the beginning of the movie, Thanos sends his Black Order to Earth to acquire both the Time Stone and the Mind Stone, while he pursues the Soul stone.
Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive are tasked with getting the Mind Stone. However, they run into problems when Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon interrupt their attack on Vision and Scarlet Witch. But they do severely damage Vision. Corvus Glaive stabs him in the ribs/spleen area.
Glaive and Proxima Midnight are forced to retreat, but they live to fight another day. They regroup with Cull Obsidian who was aiding The Ebony Maw with the Time Stone and launch an invasion on Wakanda where Vision was transported.
The Black Order seems to gain the upper hand in the invasion when they lure Scarlet Witch onto the battlefield. She was previously guarding Vision as Shuri worked on removing the Mind Stone from the android while still allowing him to survive. Once Scarlet Witch is gone, Corvus Glaive strikes and stabs Vision once again.
However, Captain America intervenes and Glaive is caught off guard allowing Vision to use Glaive’s own weapon to stab him in the back.
When it seems the Avengers are on the verge of victory in Wakanda, Thanos shows up with all of the Infinity Stones. He easily casts off the Avengers who are trying to protect Vision. But they aren’t just trying to protect Vision, Scarlet Witch is using her powers to destroy the Mind Stone.
Surprisingly, she succeeds. The Mind Stone is destroyed and Scarlet Witch kills Vision.
But Thanos is unphased. He has the power of the Time Stone and uses it. He brings Vision back to life and reforms the Mind Stone. He then grabs the Mind Stone and rips it out of Vision’s head leaving the android lifeless.
Thanos officially kills Vision.
