Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently commented that if he was to debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he would be “the leader of the Marvel Universe.”
Johnson spoke to ComicBook.com about possibly taking on a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was specifically asked a question concerning Avengers: Endgame director Anthony Russo’s comments about who The Rock should play in the MCU.
Anthony Russo previously stated, “The superhero that I would most like the Rock to play is The Rock. He is the best version of him.”
Johnson responded to the question noting he would be interested in playing himself in the MCU, “I think I would have to, that’s the thing.” He added, “And I appreciate the Russo Brothers. I’ve known those guys for a long time and I appreciate the compliment and we would have to see.”
The Rock continued, “So, basically what they’re saying is, is I don’t need a cape. Basically what they said, I could be the leader of the Marvel universe. That’s my interpretation.”
While Johnson relished the idea of becoming the leader of the Marvel universe in a future MCU movie, he’s previously played an antagonistic role towards the Avengers, embracing his upcoming role as Black Adam. While promoting Jumanji, The Rock indicated he would bring all of the Avengers into the fictional world in order to kick their butts.
“Here’s the thing: It’s not just one celebrity I would pull in. No, no, no, no. I would pull them all in. The all who I’m talking about is The Avengers. I’d pull all of them in. All of them need their ass kicked! ‘Cause it’s DC, baby! That’s how we roll. Black Adam!”
While Johnson doesn’t currently have any announced plans to join the MCU, his name has come up quite a bit recently. The actor took to Instagram following the success of Avengers: Endgame to indicate he planned on setting up a meeting with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.
Would you want to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appear as himself in a future MCU film? Is there any superhero or supervillain you would want him to play?
