Exclusive: Disney’s Box Office Expectations for Toy Story 4

My source has provided us with Disney’s box office expectations for Toy Story 4.

They tell me that Disney expects the Josh Cooley directed Toy Story 4 will bring in $170 million on opening weekend at the domestic box office. They add that the film is expected to make $500 million over the course of its entire box office run.

Those expectations are quite a bit higher than what Box Office Pro predicted with its long range tracking back in April. They predicted Toy Story 4 would only bring in between $105 million and $130 million on opening weekend.

Not only are those expectations for Box Office Pro, but they would make it the most successful opening for a Toy Story film yet. Toy Story 3 had an opening weekend of $110.3 million. It would go on to earn $415 million at the domestic box office.

However, every single Toy Story has seen its opening weekend and total gross increase. Toy Story 2 had a $57.3 million opening weekend and Toy Story had a $12.4 million opening weekend. Toy Story 2 would gross $245.8 million with Toy Story grossing $191.7 million.

The high expectations could be the result of rave critic reviews for the film. Toy Story 4 currently has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes with a Tomatometer score of 100%. The story also has a very high Metacritic score with 84 and received the Metacritic Must-See badge.

Our source also tells us Toy Story 4 will be 100 minutes long and it will have early shows beginning on Thursday, June 20th at 6 p.m. Tickets went on sale back in May.

Here’s the official description for Toy Story 4

“Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So, when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.”
