Exclusive: James Gunn Produced Brightburn Runtime and Ticket Sales Revealed!

The James Gunn produced Brightburn will be in theaters this May, and we’ve got the exclusive on just how long the movie will be and when you can purchase tickets for the film.

Our source tells us Brightburn tickets will go on sale on May 8th at 7 am EST. The movie will be 90 minutes in length. They have not yet announced early shows, but it’s more than likely there will be early shows on May 23rd. We’ll keep you posted when we find out more.

Brightburn turns the ideas of superheroes on its head and specifically appears to put a dark spin on DC Comics’ Superman. The film is specifically described as a “subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”

Here’s the official description:

“What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?”

James Gunn recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the film describing his brothers’ script for Brightburn, “Brian and Mark were talking about doing this new take on the superhero myth. “It was a creepy, scary, almost independent-movie-type script. We just kept bashing this thing out for about six months, eight months before we got the script to a place where we thought, ‘Yeah, let’s go make that.’”

He also discussed the mask Jackson A. Dunn’s character wears as seen above, “I just gave so many notes on that mask trying to create a really truly iconic horror movie character in the same way that Freddy Krueger is, or in the same way that Leatherface is, or in the same way that Jason is. Trying to create something with that same sort of feel that is instantly scary [and] plays with the superhero-ness of it all but at the same time is most definitely rooted in horror.”

Director David Yarovesky praised the film’s costume designer Autumn Steed for the final product, “In the process of getting to the final result — that we’re all incredibly proud of — she was like a factory. he would just make so many different iterations of the mask. At a certain point, I came into her office, and her wall was wallpapered with iterations of the mask, just the evolution of it is crazy. I just think she did an incredible job. I’d buy it because she’s my wife, but I do think she did an incredible job.”

Brightburn stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner. The movie is directed by David Yaovesky from a script written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn.

Brightburn hits theaters on May 24th.
