Not only did they provide us with a first look at James and his teammates, but they also announced the release date for the film which will be July 16, 2021.
The jersey is almost identical to the original Tune Squad jersey worn by Michael Jordan in the first Space Jam.
However, there are some slight differences. The waistband on the shorts looks to be a lot narrower on Lebron’s jersey. The color pattern also appears to have been changed slightly. Jordan’s featured five rows with blue, white, red, white, and then blue. Lebron’s jersey only appears to have three rows with red white and blue. It’s possible it might have the other two rows and they are just hidden by his jersey.
Lebron is also sporting a compression sleeve on his right arm. Jordan had a blue sweatband on his left arm.
The announcement also confirms the return of Lola Bunny and Bugs Bunny. Both of these characters returning shouldn’t be a surprise. Bugs Bunny was the star of the original film alongside Jordan. Lola Bunny, who debuted in the original Space Jam, was a key component in the Tune Squad defeating the Monstars!

No word on if Bill Murray will return for Space Jam 2 or who the Tune Squad will be facing off against. We don’t even know who else will be on the Tune Squad aside from Lebron James as the image makes sure to hide Lola and Bugs’ jerseys, although they do look like they are Tune Squad tops.
Space Jam 2 will be produced by [easyazon_link identifier=”B079S4NZ2R” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Black Panther[/easyazon_link] director Ryan Coogler. The film will be directed by Terence Nance. James discussed the movie with The Hollywood Reporter last year:
“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie. It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”
Are you looking forward to Space Jam 2? Who do you think the Tune Squad will face? What kind of cameos are you expecting?
