Ah! Our favorite villains behind bars, as a sad song plays throughout the 3 minute leaked Comic-Con trailer of Suicide Squad. You know Warner Bros anti-piracy department had an emergency meeting today.
One of the stars of the trailer and most likely the movie is Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie). She is introduced hanging upside down from prison bars while a female voice sings a melancholy remix version of The Bee Gees’ “I Started a Joke.” The song lyrics and female voice were chosen perfectly for this. Could it be her inner thoughts?
In the trailer, she is highlighted over the other characters, perhaps because the studio is hoping to draw in more women? The pigtails, make-up, and baseball bat certainly made me a fan.
I could have lived without hearing Will Smith’s voice as Deadshot. Hearing him utter the words, “Let’s go save the world” immediately pulled me out and made me think I was watching Independence Day. Will Smith is a good actor, but his persona doesn’t allow him to disappear into his roles. This was bad casting by Warner Bros.
The trailer saves the best for last. The Joker is introduced with a fresh interpretation acted by Jared Leto, who if anyone saw Dallas Buyers Club, knows he can transform himself into anything.
Warner Bros is upset because their trailer was leaked at Comic Con and their answer to this is of course making all of us wait another year to see Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad directed by David Ayers will hit theaters August 5, 2016.
