**Warning Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War Below**
Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, dropped a huge spoiler about her relationship with Tony Stark moving forward with Avengers 4.
Paltrow explains how their relationship has evolved over the past decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe films that all began with Iron Man in 2008, “Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.”
If you recall in one of the opening scenes of Avengers: Infinity War, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts are discussing one of Tony’s dreams where Pepper Potts is pregnant. He believes the dream was so real that it might actually have happened and he asks Pepper if she is pregnant. She tells him no and then Tony is dragged into the fight against the Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian. There’s even a scene where Pepper tells Tony not to leave Earth, but he ignores her and jet boosts after the Ebony Maw and his Q-ship.
It’s possible that dream might actually have become a reality now as Paltrow explains that Tony and Pepper have a son.
Some are theorizing that this means there will be a definitive time jump between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Obviously, they explain the reason is because of the kid and it would take Tony and Pepper at least nine months to have a child. So, at the very minimum they believe at least a year has passed since Thanos’ attack and the world has moved on.
It’s also possible Pepper might not have known that she was pregnant. We also aren’t really sure how much time actually passes in Avengers: Infinity War. Tony Stark, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange ride on the Ebony Maw’s Q-ship all the way to Titan. It’s unclear how fast those ships are and how long it actually takes them to get to Titan. So, it’s still possible that Avengers 4 might take place directly after Avengers: Infinity War.
If there is a time jump it would mean that Thanos’ theory about culling the population would be wrong. Humanity is still reproducing. And it’s possible none of their habits are changing. It might test Thanos’ own conviction and bring him back to the forefront to ensure his goals are carried out.
A go to theory might be an alternate reality, but the Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo debunked that theory leading up to Avengers: Infinity War.
My biggest guess would be that the Avengers defeat Thanos in Avengers 4 and Tony Stark retires to enjoy life with Pepper and a newborn child.
What do you make of Paltrow’s spoiler? How do you think it will play into Avengers 4? Do you think there will be a significant time jump?
