Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently addressed a possible return to the role.
Atwell played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger and then transitioned to television in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. She would also reprise her role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.
Peggy Carter would eventually be killed off in Captain America: Civil War.

Atwell recently spoke with Parade about the possibility of returning to the role:
“Because it’s a genre-specific superhero piece, I’m sure anything could happen. It’s such a huge world. I do think there’s something in the completion of the fact that they’re doing their back-to-back Avengers at the moment, which will complete an era, so I can’t see how that would be. But that’s what’s remarkable about Marvel is they keep going. Each film tends to further what they’re doing, so I wouldn’t rule it out.”
Given the fact that she showed up in the beginning of Ant-Man, it’s quite possible there’s a lot more to mine about her character in the beginning days of S.H.I.E.L.D. There’s a possibility Atwell’s Peggy Carter might show up in Captain Marvel to at least cameo. It would be pretty cool to see a passing of the torch from Peggy Carter to Nick Fury.
There’s also a possibility that she might eventually show up as Captain America. In Marvel’s upcoming Exiles series Peggy Carter will actually be Captain America from an alternate dimension. Depending on what Marvel Studios does with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 they might fully embrace the Multiverse within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that they introduced us to in Doctor Strange.
The Time Stone and Reality Stone will also be in play in Avengers: Infinity War and there’s all kind of possibilities that could allow Peggy Carter and Hayley Atwell to make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
