Hellboy Needs Some Identification in First Official Trailer

After revealing their brand new poster yesterday and promising the trailer would drop on Thursday, Lionsgate gave us their Christmas present early as they released the Hellboy trailer!

Take a look:

David Harbour, who plays Hellboy, spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the film ensuring that the film is not an origin movie, “It’s not an origin story, but it’s his coming to terms with where he came from.” He continued, “He’s been Hellboy for a long time, but there’s a new turn of events at the start of the film, where people start to bring up the fact that he might bring about the end of the world, and it’s really the first time he’s heard anything like that. The question that comes up in the movie is where does he really belong?”

The film is expected to adapt Mike Mignola and Duncan Fregredo’s Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, and The Storm and the Fury. It will see Hellboy pulled between his human allies, which consist of B.P.R.D. agent Major Ben Daimio and civilians like Alice Monaghan, and the more fantastical like Nimue the Blood Queen.

Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Major Ben Daimio, elaborated on the complicated relationship he will have with Hellboy:

“He’s definitely got a point of view about Hellboy. Just because they all exist in this universe doesn’t make them all friends. There are suspicions and rivalries. As far as how he holds his own, let’s just say Daimio has a few tricks up his sleeve.”

As for Nimue the Blood Queen who will played by Milla Jovovich, David Harbour talked about her role, “We really three-dimensionalized her in the movie.” He continued, “She was brought up in a culture that treated her kind a certain way, and it wasn’t always deserving. That’s the point that becomes compelling to Hellboy and spins his head around.”

Hellboy will come to theaters on April 12, 2019.
