Hugh Jackman has been promoting his upcoming film The Greatest Showman. However, he’s been keeping up to date on the latest rumors involving Disney buying out parts of 20th Century Fox which would include the X-Men and the Fantastic Four joining Disney and Marvel Studios. It would allow the X-Men to be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jackman had previously hinted he might be able to be lured back if Wolverine could join the Avengers. In an interview with Screen Rant he discussed the possibility back in February of this year while promoting Logan.
If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know.
However, it seems Jackman’s mind set has definitely shifted. Less than a year later, Collider asked him if he would return to Wolverine if the Disney/Fox merger happens.
Watch:
Jackman pretty much shut the door on returning to Wolverine.
It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.
It looks like Hugh Jackman will stick to his word and will not return to Wolverine even if he has the opportunity to play the character in a forthcoming Avengers film.
