**Warning Spoilers for Captain Marvel Below**
Smith took to Twitter where he wrote, “Just saw Captain Marvel. I am a blubbering mess. After a lifetime spent referencing the movies, the movies just referenced me! Many thanks to Marvel Studios and to my friend Stan Lee for the shout-out!”
Smith then questions, “But if I’m not part of the Marvel Universe… Did I survive The Snap?”

Smith is referencing the Stan Lee cameo in Captain Marvel. During the train sequence in the film where Carol Danvers is searching for a Skrull who had just attacked her, she runs into Stan Lee. Lee is reciting his lines for Smith’s Mallrats movie, which debuted in 1995. He is specifically saying, “Trust me, True Believer.”
Lee recites the line at aronnd the 3:25 mark in the clip below.
Smith previously revealed he thought Captain Marvel might be “one of my favorite Marvel Studios movies yet…” Which in hindsight, certainly looks like he knew he would be referenced in the movie.
Taking my favorite woman in the world @JenSchwalbach to see @captainmarvel on #InternationalWomansDay! Feels a bit self-serving but something tells me this might be one of my favorite @MarvelStudios movies yet… pic.twitter.com/6OofShmeDx
