Legendary Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund indicated he would be up to play the mainstay in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise one more time. He also revealed he would like to see Kevin Bacon be his successor.
Englund appeared at New Jersey’s Monster Mania convention where he detailed that his time as Freddy is nearly over.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Englund stated:
“We need a Freddy that can do the next eight movies – or seven, I don’t want them to remake Part 1 again. I’m not Freddy anymore, you guys. I could do one more…probably. If you shot me up with Vitamin C. But here’s the thing. I can’t do eight more, you guys. So we need a new actor that you guys believe in and trust and love that can go the distance.”
He then noted he liked the rumor about Kevin Bacon taking on the role of Freddy.
“He’s not a kid anymore either but the rumor I’ve heard that I like is Kevin Bacon. Kevin loves horror. He’s a real actor. He’s a character actor. Kevin was great in Tremors. Kevin was great in Stir of Echoes. And I’ve heard this rumor. We need someone like that to take it on. And re-do it, exploiting all of the new technology.”
Bacon has shown interest in taking on the role of Freddy. In response to a fan suggesting he should take on the role, Bacon responded, “I like the way you think.”

Here’s the thing, Robert Englund is on point. Kevin Bacon as an actor has both the range and the experience with the horror genre to not go into it blind. Three of his most popular horror movies are Tremors, Stir of Echos and Hollow Man. Not to mention, he was a pretty ruthless villain as Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class.
Bacon also played Jack in the first Friday the 13th film. He’s already got an inside track to the world of Freddy Krueger.
What do you think of the idea of Kevin Bacon taking on the mantel of Freddy Krueger? Does he have what it takes to stalk the children of Springfield in their dreams? Let me know!
