New James Bond Film ‘No Time to Die’ Reportedly Banned the Phrase “Bond Girl” From Set

James Bond and oo7 is going to venture where the super-secret British spy has never traversed before. The smooth-talking suave James Bond appears to be embracing “woke” culture in the upcoming No Time To Die film. In fact, a new report details that the upcoming James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’ banned the phrase “Bond girls” on the production set.

The Daily Mail reports Bond will ditch his gasoline-powered Aston Martin for an electric-powered Aston Martin Rapide E. The vehicle costs over $321,000 and they only produced 155 of them. However, The Sunday Times’ Driving notes that a spokesperson from Aston Martin told them that the Rapide E will not be in the film.

“We have no idea where that rumour came from. The three cars for the new Bond film were decided ages ago, well before that rumour emerged.”

Those three cars will apparently be the V8 Vantage that appeared in The Living Daylights, the DB5, which first appeared in Goldfinger, and the new Aston Martin Valhalla.

Not only will Bond be ditching the gasoline, but he will also be getting hitched to Dr. Madeleine Swann, played by Lea Seydoux.

Swann was Bond’s love interest in the last James Bond film, Spectre. She’s revealed to be the daughter of Bond villain, Mr. White. However, Seydoux’s Swann will refuse to take Bond’s last name.

No Mrs. Bond

The Daily Mail reports:

“The script has Bond marrying Dr Madeleine Swann – the psychologist played by French actress Lea Seydoux who first appeared in 2015’s Spectre. But she refuses to take her new husband’s name.”

In fact, this is specifically addressed in the script according to The Daily Mail. The morning after their wedding, Bond wakes up and says, “Good morning, Mrs. Bond.” Leydoux’s Swann responds, “Don’t you mean Ms. Swann?”

Bond Girls Banned

Not only will Swann not take on Bond’s name, but a source told The Daily Mail that the term ‘Bond girl’ was banned from the set.

“The phrase ‘Bond girl’ was outlawed from the set. The women in this film are all strong, brave and fiercely independent. These women are not helpless girls who jump into bed with Bond – their reactions are very different from what people might think.

Bond tries his usual seduction techniques but they fail miserably. It’s very funny.”

While Bond girls might have banned, it does appear that sexual innuendo has not been completely written out of the script. The Daily Mail describes one scene involving a seaplane and a take-off:

“In one scene, Daniel Craig’s suave secret agent is struggling to get a seaplane airborne as his passenger cries out ‘Get it up! Get it up!’ – prompting the wry reply: ‘I’ve never had a problem with that before.'”

Climate Change

The Daily Mail also reports the primary villain in No Time to Die will attempt to use a deadly algae to destroy the world’s oceans. Bond will have to come out of retirement in order to stop this ocean-killing villain.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge

All of this comes after Solo: A Star Wars Story actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought on board the production as a writer. Reports indicated her role was to ensure this latest 007 film was #MeToo appropriate.

However, she has denied those reports noting her role was more practical. She appeared on BBC Radio 4’s The Today Programme and indicated the franchise was already trying to embrace wokeness before they brought her in.

“They were already doing that themselves. They’re having that conversation with themselves the whole time.”

She added:

“[My involvement] was much more practical. Just, “You’re a writer, we need some help with these scenes. And you come up with some dialogue for these characters.”

Back in May, Waller-Bridge talked about her approach to the James Bond franchise:

“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”

Lashana Lynch’s 007?

Just a few short months after Waller-Bridge outlined her view on Bond, it was reported that Captain Marvel Actress Lashana Lynch was poised to take over the 007 code name.

A source told The Daily Mail:

“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.”

They added, “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

However, it appears that after news of this broke, and the ensuing social media backlash the production team is reworking the script to scrap this scene. The Daily Mail reports, “Sources say she is now likely to get another agent number, 001.”

Nevertheless, Lashana Lynch’s character will apparently give fans a “fresh perspective” in No Time to Die.  Lynch spoke with The Hollywood Reporter:

“Everyone was really responsive to having her be what I wanted. You’re given a fresh perspective on a brand-new black woman in the Bond world.”

Lynch also wanted to make sure that the character was “a real woman.”

“I didn’t want someone who was slick. I wanted someone who was rough around the edges and who has a past and a history and has issues with her weight and maybe questions what’s going on with her boyfriend.”

She even notes that they had discussions involving including her period in the film.

“We had one conversation about her maybe being on her period in one scene, and maybe at the beginning of the scene — and I spoke to Cary about this — throwing her tampon in the thing.”

No Time to Die is expected to release April 8th, 2020.
