Orion Pictures released their first trailer for the upcoming reboot of Child’s Play. Take a look:
Here’s the official description for the film:
“A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, Child’s Play follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.”
The film is directed by Lars Klevberg based off a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith. The film stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, and Brian Tyree Henry.
Rumors for the film indicate Chucky’s origin will be different from the original 1988 film. In this new film, Chucky will be a “a defective Buddi doll whose programming code was hacked so that he has no limitations to learning and also violence.”
In the original film, Chucky was a “Good Guy” doll that was possessed by serial killer Charles Lee Ray after he performed a Haitian Vodou spell.
It’s unclear if these rumors will pan out as the trailer doesn’t really give us any indication as to why the Buddi doll apparently goes on a killing spree. One thing is for sure, he’s not afraid to kill as we see a dead body covered in a sheet laying in the road. And he’s not afraid to torture either as Andy’s mom is tied up towards the end of the trailer.
What might be interesting is the fact that Andy might actually be safe from Chucky. The film’s tag line is “Meet your new best friend…til the end.”
Child’s Play will hit theaters on June 21, 2019.
What do you think about the trailer? Do you plan on seeing Child’s Play when it hits theaters in June?
