A new report indicates that Captain Marvel actress Lashana Lynch will play 007 in the upcoming James Bond film.
The Daily Mail reports Lynch will play Agent 007 after actor Daniel Craig’s James Bond retires to Jamaica.
The Daily Mail’s source states, “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.” The source adds, “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”
The source also added that Craig’s James Bond attempts to seduce Lynch’s character.
“Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.”
They also informed the Daily Mail that the term “Bond Girls” is forbidden and they are now to be referred to as “Bond Women.”
This report comes after the James Bond film added Solo: A Star Wars Story actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge to provide changes to the upcoming James Bond script. Waller-Bridge was reportedly added to the film to give it a “makeover for the MeToo era.”
The source would go on to state, “Lashana is absolutely brilliant and Phoebe’s script is as sharp and funny as you would expect. This Bond pays tribute to some of the earlier films with a lot of humour.”
They also added, ‘This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film. There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.”
Waller-Bridge previously spoke about what her vision for Bond was:
“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”
She added:
“I just want to make sure that when they get those pages through, that Lashana, Léa and Ana open them and go, ‘I can’t wait to do that.’ As an actress, I very rarely had that feeling early in my career. That brings me much pleasure, knowing that I’m giving that to an actress.”
This report from the Daily Mail comes after James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli spoke to The Guardian in October of last year. She told them, “Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as male.” She added, “And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”
However, Broccoli had previously commented in January 2018, “These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit. Anything is possible.” She added, “Right now it’s Daniel Craig, and I’m very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?”
