This past week a new report ignited rumors that Idris Elba could become the next James Bond following Daniel Craig’s potential exit from the role. Craig is slated to return as Agent 007 in the currently unnamed 25th James Bond film.

The initial report indicated [easyazon_link identifier=”B07FMVJ11Q” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Equalizer 2[/easyazon_link] director Antoine Fuqua had a meeting with James Bond producers and had mentioned Idris Elba.

However, that rumor appears to be completely made up. A new report from The Hollywood Reporter (THR) indicates Antoine Fuqua never had a conversation with Barbara Brocolli or any of the James Bond producers.

A representative for Fuqua told THR, “He never had a conversation with Barbara about the franchise or about any casting. It’s all made up stuff. Not sure how it got started.”

While a rep for Elba didn’t comment a source indicates, “no one from Elba’s team is aware of any overtures.”

Craig, 50, will return to James Bond his fifth movie. The screenplay for the film was written by Trainspotting writer John Hodge. Danny Boyle will direct the film.

The last entry into the James Bond franchise, [easyazon_link identifier=”B017HYSNWI” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Spectre[/easyazon_link], grossed over $880 million worldwide when it was released in November 2015. It’s the second highest grossing Bond film behind 2012’s Skyfall which grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. All four of Daniel Craig’s James Bond films have grossed well over half a billion each.

The 25th James Bond film is expected to go into production on December 3, 2018.

The film is expected to hit theaters on November 8, 2019. Are you excited for the new Bond film? Do you want to see Idris Elba become the next Bond?
