A new report suggests Marvel Studios will cast a transgender female character in one of their upcoming Phase 4 projects.
The report comes from Geeks World Wide, who indicate the character is currently using the codename “Jessica.” They go on to indicate that they are looking for a “transwoman actress of any ethnicity in her 20s to 30s.”
Geeks World Wide speculates that the character will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder as they state “the casting breakdown calls for ‘transgender actresses only.'” They go on to indicate the character will be Sera.
Sera first appeared in Angela: Asgard’s Assassin #1 back in 2015. Sera was created by Kieron Gillen, Marguerite Bennett, and Phil Jimenez. Sera was a member of a group of wingless male Angels from Heven called Anchorites that were being held by the Hierophants.
Sera would go on to discover the Hierophants planned to conquer the Nine Realms by defeating the Queen of Angels through a powerful engine called the Temple’s Furnace.
Sera would eventually be rescued and freed from Heven by Angela and go on to participate in a number of adventures alongside Angela before dying at the hands of one of their enemies.
As announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Thor: Love and Thunder will feature Natalie Portman returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster and she will become Female Thor.
The film, which will be directed by Taika Waititi will also feature a LGBTQ Valkyrie. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige told io9, “As new king, she needs to find her queen.” He added, “That will be her first order of business. She has some ideas. Keep you posted.”
Given Geeks World Wide’s speculation that the female transgender character could be Sera, it’s possible this new “queen” for Valkyrie could be Thor’s kidnapped sister Angela.
