A new report indicates Paramount and Hasbro are developing a brand new Power Rangers film.
The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter (THR) and indicates that filmmaker Jonathan Entwistle will be helming the project. They also note that it will be a reboot of the franchise.
Entwistle doesn’t have many credits to his name. He produced the Netflix show The End of the F***ing World TV series and directed five episodes.
THR’s report indicates the film will “involve a time-travel element that brings the kids to the 1990s and, in Back to the Future fashion, they have to find a way to get back to their present.”
The script will reportedly be written by Patrick Burleigh, who was a story consultant on Ant-Man and the Wasp.
The most recent Power Rangers film hit theaters in 2017. It earned $85.3 million at the domestic box office and $57.1 million at the international box office. It would earn a combined $142.5 million. However, it had an estimated production budget of $120 million.
The-Numbers reports it would sell $14.9 million in domestic video sales.

In August 2018, a report from Licensing International indicated Hasbro would be working on a new Power Rangers film. However, their report noted that it would be a follow-up to the 2017 film.
Those plans would apparently change by July 2019.
Power Rangers and Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery noted Hasbro would be working on a new film, but it would be with a brand new cast indicating the next film would be a reboot.

Not only does it appear there is a new Power Rangers in the works, but there are rumors that Hasbro is looking at creating a combined film universe that would feature the Transformers.
