Report: Reverse-Flash Is Not the Primary Villain in The Flash
It’s fairly certain he is in it but Reverse-Flash is reportedly not the main villain in The Flash starring Ezra Miller.
This comes from Heroic Hollywood and an insider they spoke with. No further details, such as who would take Eobard Thawne’s place, were offered.
The film will adapt Flashpoint and was already well on its way to inconsistency with the source material.
Two of which, include the absences including Thomas Wayne Batman and the Atlantis-Amazon War.
None of us knew for sure how different The Flash would be though we had our suspicions. And it’s not like we weren’t warned.
Director Andy Muschietti made it clear months ago he’s doing a different version of the Flashpoint readers are used to.
In the comic as well as the animated feature adaptation, Thawne was the principal antagonist taunting Barry and keeping him from setting things right by siphoning energy from the Speedforce.
This puts a kink in rumored plans to cast somebody major – Michael Fassbender, Matthew McConaughey, or Charlie Hunnam – as Reverse-Flash.
Putting a big name in a minor role defeats the purpose of seeking a profitable box office.

In Thomas Wayne’s place are Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as their respective incarnations of Batman with Affleck’s serving as Barry’s mentor.
Muschietti explained their connection to Vanity Fair when Affleck was announced. “The interaction…between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level we haven’t seen before,” he began.
He added, “it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think.” The two bond over their mothers being murdered.
Reverse-Flash is Nora Allen’s killer but his demotion, Heroic Hollywood suspects, could take him out of the equation.
The focus would then go to “Barry’s emotional story,” requiring a new cause of death for his mom; one that convinces him and Keaton’s Batman to work together.
On the plus side, this means one less Speedster and less clutter. Barry won’t have to face a villain who is a mirror of his abilities as is often the case in comic book movies.
Reverse-Flash could still be set up as a villain down the line, sort of like how Grant Morrison and Ezra Miller’s script chose to introduce him as a nameless wraith.
Either way, in The Flash Barry Allen, is expected to travel through time to stop his mother’s death but smashes into another reality – that of Tim Burton’s Batman films – and meets the alternate version of the Dark Knight.
The Flash comes out on June 3, 2022.
