A new report notes that Warner Bros. has confirmed an Aquaman sequel and announced a tentative release date for the film.
Deadline reports the Aquaman sequel will hit theaters on December 16, 2022. They indicate the film will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. McGoldrick co-wrote the first movie with Will Beall. It’s no surprise that Aquaman would get a sequel given that the movie has raked in the cash at the box office. The film has brought in over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office making it the highest grossing DC Comics film property globally. While it performed well at the global box office, it only brought in over $330 million domestically, making it only the fourth highest grossing domestic film based off DC Comics. The film fell behind [easyazon_link identifier=”B001I189MQ” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The Dark Knight[/easyazon_link], The Dark Knight Rises, and Wonder Woman. It edged out Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by around $2 million.
This report for a sequel comes after earlier reports indicating Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment were also working on a spin-off film focused on The Trench. The film is reportedly to be written by Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald and will be a horror-based film. It is not expected to feature the main cast of Aquaman, and will have a much smaller budget compared to other superhero films.
Aquaman director James Wan would weigh in on the possibility of The Trench film saying “Aquaman was always about building a bigger, unique world within itself. There are many adventures within the Seven Seas.” However, he would not confirm whether or not the film was actually happening.
Thank You. What I do in my little corner doesn’t affect other projects from getting made.
Aquaman was always about building a bigger, unique world within itself. There are many adventures within the Seven Seas.
(Now, I’m not saying that this is actually happening) https://t.co/HIypZQq4oa
