In seemingly proving that the studio has learned nothing from their own failures, despite the ongoing rejection of the tired ‘girlboss’ narratives typical of recent media productions, a new rumor suggests that Marvel Studios is still hoping to center their upcoming X-Men film reboot on the team’s female members.

Word of Marvel’s feminine creative intent for the MCU debut of their Merry Band of Mutants was first raised to the public by noted scooper Daniel ‘DanielRPK’ Richtman.
As recapped by numerous outlets including the @XMenReboot fan Twitter account, in a December 18th post shared to his personal Patreon account, Richtman alleged three new details regarding the X-Men’s next cinematic outing: that Mr. Sinister would serve as its main villain, that Magneto would be left out of its cast (an attempt to differentiate the MCU’s mutant films from the previous, Fox-helmed ones), and that the film’s plot would focus squarely on the various women who made up the ranks of the titular team.
And though, as noted above, the months since his initial report have seen more and more audiences finding themselves rejecting such tired attempts at shoehorning in pop-feminist, ‘girl boss’ angles into their storytelling – for proof, look no further than the financial and reputational disasters that were Disney’s own The Marvels, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny – a recent update from Richtman suggests that Marvel is still moving forward with their ‘X-Women’ concept.
Taking to his aforementioned Patreon account in April 2024, as detailed by various media outlets including Marvel-centric Twitter news account Cosmic Marvel, Richtman posited that not only was the studio still intent on having the film focus on those mutants of the fairer sex, but that they now also wanted it to both introduce characters who hadn’t yet been in live-action as well as strike a thematic balance between drama and comedy.

As of writing, neither Marvel Studios, Richtman, or any other scoopers have provided any hints or confirmation as to which female mutants may appear in the X-Men‘s next silver screen adventure.
However, given her establishment as the MCU’s first official mutant in the first season finale of her solo series, it’s more than likely that the Kamala Khan incarnation of Ms. Marvel, as portrayed by fan-favorite actress Iman Vellani, will make at least a cameo appearance in the film.
Further, in lending credence to Richtman’s scoops, it should be noted that Marvel Studios has a well-established history of undertaking such ham-fisted measures to bolster the franchise’s female representation, as evidenced by their well-established history of gender-swapping male characters – as seen with Ghost, Captain Mar-Vell, and Taskmaster – insulting said male characters – remember when Jane Foster was deemed a more capable wielder of Mjolnir than Thor himself in Thor: Love and Thunder – and forcing eye-rolling ‘girl power’ moments into their set pieces – as seen during the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame.
At current, Marvel has yet to publicly provide any official information, including plot details, casting choices, and a potential release date, regarding their upcoming X-Men film.
