A Ghost Rider film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is unlikely to be in the cards according to a new rumor.
Mikey Sutton in his Geekosity Facebook group writes:
“Ghost Rider in the movies is unlikely. Kevin Feige let the character appear on TV as he had no place for him in the cinematic side.”
Sutton’s response is to a rumor started by Daniel Richtman who claims Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is interested in Ghost Rider.

We Got This Covered also reports that the newly created Cosmic Ghost Rider could also appear in the MCU in Phase 5. (Related: Cosmic Ghost Rider’s Identity Revealed!)
Ghost Rider first appeared on the big screen as Johnny Blaze played by Nicholas Cage back in 2007. A sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance was released in 2012 with Cage reprising his role.
The character would then appear in ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This time it was the Robbie Reyes version of the character portrayed by Gabriel Luna. He first appeared in the Season 4 premiere titled The Ghost.
Luna confirmed he would reprise the role of Ghost Rider in a brand new TV series centered around the character that will debut on Hulu. (Related: Marvel TV and Hulu to Launch Live-Action Ghost Rider and Helstrom Series)
The series will see Robbie Reyes live near the Texas/Mexico border. He will bring his unique brand of vengeance as he struggles to control his power granted to him after he is consumed by hellfire and bound to a demon.
Sutton explains why he believes the rumor about a Ghost Rider film in the MCU is bunk:
Again, with so many Fox characters to choose from, why give the $100+ million slot to a cult superhero that didn’t exactly blow up the box office before?
He also notes most of the media would throw a fit if Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige decided to switch out Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider with Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch:
“The main problem I have with this rumor is the speculation — not a “rumor” — that Robbie Reyes would be replaced in the movies with Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch. Let me get this straight: You’re going to tell the media, who knows nothing about comic books, that you’re replacing a Hispanic with a white guy? Seriously? That’s exactly how they’ll frame this.”
Sutton does believe that Luna’s Ghost Rider could possibly cameo in the recently announced Blade film. However, he notes he hasn’t word of that yet.
“The only possibility I see is Gabriel Luna making an appearance as Ghost Rider in Blade but I don’t see that happening yet, and I haven’t heard a word of it.”
What do you make of these dueling rumors? Do you want to see Ghost Rider or Cosmic Ghost Rider in the MCU? Which version of Ghost Rider would you want to see?
