A new rumor indicates Kylo Ren will deploy a brand new super weapon in Star Wars Episode IX. But it won’t just be one super weapon. It’s possible there are at least three of these weapons being used by Ren.
The rumor comes from an alleged leaker who spoke to the Express:
“Specifically, a description of Kylo Ren inside his throne room, assumed to be the headquarters of the First Order, viewing a holgram (sp?) form (sp?) a device held in his hand.
Kylo appears to be examining three large superweapons that are in a cyllindrical shape with an enormous engine on each side of each superweapon of this ship/weapon, destroying terrain on a planet. The engine burner is coloured red and the blast from the bottom of these three massive weapons is coloued (sp?) blue, impacting a surface causing astronomical destruction. Parts of the weapon seem to be under consruction (sp?) and not finished.”
If you’ve been following the recent Star Wars comics out of Marvel, these devices might sound familiar. The planet has been ravaged from the Death Star attack, but there are still kyber crystals that need to be harvested. The Empire sends the Queen of Shu-Torun, Trios, to carry out the task. As the Queen of Shu-Torun, Trios has intimate knowledge about massive drills that can mine the depths of a planet. And she gives the Empire access to one of her Drill Citadels.
This wouldn’t be unfamiliar territory for J.J. Abrams he did use mining drills when he rebooted the Star Trek film franchise. In fact, the main super weapon in that film was a mining drill deployed by the Romulans to destroy Vulcan and threaten Earth.
The original report believes the weapons are World Devastators from the Dark Horse Comics story line [easyazon_link identifier=”B00PJ2CF34″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Dark Empire[/easyazon_link].
World Devastators were equipped with tractor beams and could actually use the world’s material resources for the Empire’s benefit. They would land on the planet and use their tractor beams to tear the planet apart. The World Devastators were equipped with their own foundries which would use the planet’s resources to produce starfighters, starships and droids that would be sent directly into battle.
