Rumor: Mara Jade Coming to Star Wars Live-Action
A new rumor indicates Star Wars will be dipping into the Extended Universe and bringing Mara Jade to live-action.
The rumor comes from Mikey Sutton and posted in his Geekosity Facebook group.
Sutton writes:
“I have had this information for over a year now, as about a few hundred in here know already. I’ll have more details in a day or two. But Mara Jade is coming to live-action ‘Star Wars.’ Stay Tuned.”
Mara Jade has been a character that a number of Star Wars fans would want to see adapted into live-action. While not specific to Mara Jade, Lucasfilm Story Group member Leeland Chee did tease that a number of EU or Legends characters would be making appearances in Disney’s Star Wars canon in the coming months back in January 2018.
Chee wrote, “You wouldn’t believe some of the Legends characters that will be cropping up in various media in the coming months.” (Related: Lucasfilm Story Group Member Teases Star Wars Legends Characters to Become Canon!)
You wouldn’t believe some of the Legends characters that will be cropping up in various media in the coming months. Hey, if Tag & Bink can show up, ANYthing is possible.

Chee didn’t go into specifics, but Disney has brought in a number of EU or Legends material already. They introduced Admiral Thrawn in their animated series Star Wars Rebels. They also made the Hammerhead class ship play a key role in Rogue One as it knocked out the orbital station that allowed the Rogue One crew to beam the plans of the Death Star to Admiral Raddus.
One fan believes Keri Russell’s Zorri Bliss character in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker film is actually Mara Jade and she will be the one training Rey at the beginning of the film. (Related: First Look: Keri Russell as Zorri Bliss in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker)
My theory:
Keri Russell’s “Zorri Bliss” is really, Mara Jade Skywalker. She’s the one, who trains Rey, at the beginning of the trailer.
Just a theory.

This isn’t the first time a live-action Mara Jade rumor has made the rounds. Back in August, a rumor surfaced regarding the possibility of a Luke Skywalker miniseries. Attached to that rumor was one regarding Mara Jade as well. It’s possible the Mara Jade series could spin-off the Luke Skywalker miniseries. Who is Mara Jade?
Mara Jade made her first appearance in Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire. She was originally raised as an assassin and servant of Emperor Palpatine. She would be tasked with killing rebels as well as corrupt Imperials.
After the death of the Emperor, she was given one final task to kill Luke Skywalker. However, she decided to become a smuggler instead working under Talon Karrde. She would eventually work with Luke Skywalker and begin training at his Jedi Paxeum. In fact, Mara Jade would aid Luke during the Almanian Uprising and the Corellian Crisis. The two would eventually get married with Mara Jade becoming Mara Jade Skywalker. She would also become a Jedi Master in the New Jedi Order. Luke and Mara would have a son named Ben Skywalker.
She would die at the hands of her nephew Jacen Solo or Darth Caedus.
Zahn compared Mara to Leia saying, “Mara has a sharper and more sarcastic manner, and of course, she had to go through the painful realization that her service had been to an evil cause. But they’re both women who are strong without sacrificing their femininity, a balance which I think some authors have trouble writing. Bear in mind too, that Leia was one of the first people in the New Republic who decided Mara could be trusted, which perhaps says something about their understanding of each other.”
He’s also noted that he would want to see Mara Jade make the leap to live-action, “If there was a generic, or organic, spot for her to fit into a story…I promise people, I will pitch it to the Lucasfilm story group, and then, it’s their decision whether to allow it or not.”
