Ben Affleck confirmed his departure from Batman and wished director Matt Reeves good luck on his upcoming Batman film. With Affleck out, speculation is buzzing about who could become the next Batman. In fact, an Irish betting site even announced odds for a number of A-list actors who they think might take on the role.
However, a recent rumor indicates Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves have a specific vision on who they want to be the next Batman. Variety’s Justin Kroll recently Tweeted the studio “wants a familiar face” and that Reeves has a “certain age in mind and that age is very specific.” Kroll even indicates he gave his source two names and the source indicated the one was too young and the other too old. The actors were allegedly seven years apart.
THE BATMAN: this sounds like it could move faster then people would expect with the date set. Hearing studio wants a familiar face and Reeves has his certain age in mind and that age is very specific like I said two names within 7 years of each other; “Too young, too Old’

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has been following the Batman actor saga since details leaked out Matt Reeves was working on a Batman film. Reeves made it clear on “The Business” podcast that he wanted to his version of Batman. “It’s not like I want to do any version of Batman, I want to do my version of Batman.”
As for what his vision entails, he spoke to IndieWire last year, comparing it to Jekyll and Hyde.
“I think that it’s interesting, because one of the things that I’ve found interesting, just as we’re working on the story, is looking back at Jekyll and Hyde, and the idea of your shadow-self, and the idea of, we are all multiple things. It’s different aspects of who we are, and I think there are times when maybe the surface of Bruce is not really who he is, but that’s his disguise. There are times when Batman’s the disguise, but there are times when his true essence comes out, because by being veiled, a kind of instinctual side comes out that’s very pure.”
Most recently Matt Reeves explained his film will be a “point of view-driven, noir Batman tale.”
He added:
“It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
If Variety’s Justin Kroll is to be beleived, we might find out just who exactly Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. have in mind sooner rather than later.
Reeves’ Batman film is slated for a June 25, 2021 release date.
