Shazam! Zaps Box Offices with Almost $6 Million Haul on Thursday

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s Shazam! zapped box offices on Thursday night bringing in $5.9 million.

That means the film has already grossed over $9.2 million following its $3.3 million early preview courtesy of Fandango.

Box Office Mojo reports Shazam!’s Thursday night preview puts it just behind Marvel’s Ant-Man movie which brought in $6.4 million on Thursday previews and would go on to have an opening weekend of $57.2 million. Ant-Man would go on to earn over $180 million at the domestic box office and over $519 million at the worldwide box office.

Not only do they compare the film to Ant-Man, but to Star Trek Beyond. Star Trek Beyond would bring in $5.5 million on Thursday previews and go on to earn $59.2 million in its opening weekend. The movie would end up grossing over $158 million at the domestic box office and over $343 million at the worldwide box office.

Box Office Mojo predicts Shazam! will be the number one movie at the box office this weekend followed by Pet Sematary. They predict the film will have an opening weekend anywhere between $45-50 million. They specifically predict opening weekend totals will be “right around $48 million.”

Our source indicated that Warner Bros. was expecting Shazam! to bring in $45 million on opening weekend with a total domestic haul of $150 million.

Shazam! currently has a Metascore of 72 with a Metacritic User Score of 7.9.

On Rotten Tomatoes the movie has a 92% Tomatometer score from critics and a 91% Audience Score.
