Spider-Man actor Tom Holland revealed a first look at his live-action version of Nathan for the upcoming Uncharted film.
Holland shared an image of himself as Nathan Drake to his Instagram, writing “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate.”
As you can see in the post below, Holland is wearing an outfit that appears to be inspired by Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
He’s wearing a grimy creamy white shirt with darker beige cargo pants. He appears to have two pistol holsters strapped to his shoulders, although one of them could simply be a pouch.
Around his neck he also has a necklace with what appears to be Francis Drake’s ring attached. For those unfamiliar with the significance of the ring, Drake acquired it from the Museo Maritimo when he was a kid in a flashback scene shown in Uncharted 3.
In the first Uncharted game, it’s revealed the ring is inscribed with the Latin, “sic parvis magna” meaning “greatness from small beginnings.” It also contains coordinates located off the coast of Panama.
While Drake acquired the ring, a younger Victor Sullivan would acquire a cipher disk from the museum and turn it over to Katherine Marlowe. However, the young Drake would eventually win Sullivan over to his side and inform him that the ring is actually the key to the cipher disk.
On top of that, the young Drake believes the cipher disk leads to a horde of treasure left by Francis Drake.
It’s a little bit of a retcon given in the original Uncharted game, Drake would leave the ring in a Treasure Vault alongside Francis Drake’s body. However, Elena Fisher would take it and eventually return it to him.
Drake and Sullivan would eventually reacquire the cipher from Marlowe, twenty years later after acquiring the ring at the Museo Maritimo.
He would use the ring to unlock the cipher that leads him to a location in the middle of the The Rub’al Khali desert that he believes contains the location of the Atlantis of the Sands, a place that contains immeasurable wealth, but is also said to have been destroyed by God for its arrogance.
Here’s what Holland looks like as Nathan Drake.
Given Holland’s Drake still has the ring it appears the film will be set before the events of Uncharted 3. In fact, it’s been reported that Holland is playing a much younger Drake than what’s typically portrayed in the games.
As for the adventure that Holland will undertake, plot details are being kept under wraps although actor Nolan North, who did the voice acting for Nathan Drake in the games, did provide some hints at what we can expect in a post to Twitter earlier today.
A closer look at the photo of the book appears to indicate Drake might be hunting down treasure connected to the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and Charles V of the Holy Roman Emperor.
