Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Wins Oscar for Animated Feature Film!

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse took home the Oscar for the Animated Feature Film. Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller took home the Oscar.

Upon accepting the award Phil Lord stated, “When a kid says ‘he looks like me’ or ‘he speaks Spanish like us,’ we feel like we already won.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse broke an eight year run where Disney and Pixar films had taken home the Best Animated Feature. It’s the first time since 2011 when a Disney or Pixar film didn’t win. Disney and Pixar have actually dominated the category only losing out on the win six times since the category was introduced in 2001.

Ramsey previously described the spirit of the movie, “Anyone can wear the mask; everyone is powerful and everyone is necessary, and that is the spirit of the movie.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse beat out Brad Bird, John Walker, and Nicole Paradis Grindle for Incredibles 2, Wes Anderson, Scott rudin, Steven Rales, and Jeremy Dawson for Isle of Dogs, Mamoru Hosoda and Yuichiro Saito for Mirai, and Rich Moore, Phil Johnston, and Clark Spencer for Ralph Breaks the Internet.
